financial control major
The program
The Advanced Diploma of Business (Marketing) equips you with the skills for a career in marketing. Effective marketing is essential to any successful business. It includes finding out what people want and how your business can meet that want; how to gain new customers and keep existing ones; and how to pick and develop products that will be successful. Once you have a product, you need to let people know about it using advertising, public relations, promotions, direct marketing and many other marketing tools.
The Advanced Diploma is also a practical method of entering a relevant degree program, using the qualification both to gain employment and substantial credits towards university study.
Over the past 20 years, our programs in management and marketing have established a reputation for depth, breadth and student achievement. Our graduates are employed in all business areas, in large and small organisations in Australia and internationally.
One of the reasons for this success is that the course blends the intensely practical skills of the Certificate IV in Business with the intellectual rigor of upper level competencies in the Advanced Diploma. You are also able to tailor the course by selecting a major that suits your personal interests and direction.
Financial control is essential to all types of business and organisation, though it takes a special type of organised, logical and thinking person who is not daunted by figures. This is the major to nominate if you plan on running your own business, or if you are interested in extending the accounting aspect of your course.

Course content
The subjects used in our version of the Advanced Diploma of Business (Marketing) build on the practical skills and foundation knowledge achieved in the Certificate IV in Business, which occupies the first semester of the course. These emphasise computer and interpersonal communication skills -- indispensable tools in today's competitive business world. They also cover accounting systems using MYOB, supervision and project management skills, and knowledge of practical aspects of marketing.
At the Advanced Diploma level, the subjects include studies of how consumers make choices and how to manage market research. They cover marketing strategy development and planning, managing day-to-day operational marketing, international marketing, and a knowledge of the legal framework in which businesses and the marketing process must operate. The subjects in your chosen major allow you to personalise the course.
The financial control major provides the skills and knowledge required to conduct and oversee the day-to-day financial operations of a small business or a department within a larger organisation. The major is not intended to cover detailed specialist accounting skills that are undertaken by qualified accountants or financial controllers, but does include the awareness of accounting issues and concepts needed by managers for effective communication with accountants or other specialists on financial matters.
Please note that subjects may be changed at the discretion of the College to keep them up to date, to comply with industry Training Package requirements, or for timetabling purposes.
