mature students

If you feel that you need to brush up on certain skills for your current job, a future job or a job in a completely different industry, Williams is the place for you! There's a small but growing band of mature students at Williams. We define "mature student" as anyone who is older than school leaving age, and this usually means that they have worked full-time for a period and are looking to the College for retraining and re-education into a new employment area.

We find the main concern of mature students is how well they will fit in a class of younger students. While about three-quarters of our students are recent school leavers, the remainder is a mix of mature students and international students who range from their mid to late 20s upwards. Our teachers (who are mature-aged themselves) welcome mature students into the class and are skilled in adult learning principles that take advantage of group dynamics to make everyone feel at ease and benefit from, and contribute to, the learning experience.

Mature students also benefit at Williams because we look at your past qualifications as well as your work and life experience to date. More often than not you you will get credit or recognition of prior learning (RPL) which means you won’t need to complete every subject in the course.

If you want to apply for a new job but think you don’t have the skills, why not take a break from full time work. Talk to us about how part time or evening study now could make a change in your life.
