HISTORY

Williams is unique as an educational institution in Australia, and possibly the world, as it has been owned and managed, hands-on, by four generations of the one family for 114 years.

Hugh George Williams founded the College in 1894. The photo at right shows him taking an early class in Charters Towers, North Queensland, proudly displaying the two typewriters that were the latest in technological wizardry.

His goals were to:

  • Strive for excellence in business education
  • Encourage students to achieve their personal best
  • Provide personalised tuition through experienced, qualified and dedicated staff
  • Keep abreast of improvements and advances in technology
  • Offer programs relevant to current employment market standards.

Our graduates benefit from the long reputation of the College, while at the same time continuing to build it and their own reputations by delivering a competitive edge in the employment market. You will find some of their stories on the College People page -- they are good illustrations of what can be achieved through quality training, hard work and an attitude that values personal best.

Please look through the programs which interest you on the website. We are also very happy for you to come into the College, have a look at the facilities and talk with our student services people about the best options for your career training.

Laurier Williams, College Director

if you are interested in the College's history -- perhaps you are a former student from long ago -- please come back to this page. We are working on a more detailed history.
